This website is designed to be used as an online school for those exceptional souls who are willing to pay the considerable heart-investment required to translate an earnest hope for His Rest into the supernaturally stable radiance within the reality. Such earnest seekers should start by reading the above introductory documents on this Home page. (The full intro draws on many sources, while the brief intro sticks mostly with the principles seen at work by John Wesley in hundrds of lives.)
This website is designed to be an intensly serious endeavour to serve those hungry souls who ache for more of Him with an overwhelming challenge from the timeless words of selected heritage authours -so that (at last) you may sink to your knees and cast your ALL unto Him in full trust that He will respond to your desperate faith and make Himself LORD of your ALL. .......... Only then does true Christianity begin. His Rest will come to be understood as both the fulfillment of the gospel's promise -and the experiential foundation for the Kingdom. Earnest Seeker
I have tried to provide a wide enough variety of resources to appeal to souls of every background and level of achievement in every category, so if you find a resource that is too theological for you -move on -because there are others that use homely examples instead (especially articles by Carradine). Some of the testimonials will make you laugh. Some will make you cry...
Let your study be guided by the numbers in the left hand menu options:
The Door #1 Online school. This page contains a number of important topical introductory articles that you will need to start initially and at various times thereafter as you become more conversant with this challenging task.
Website Key This is a short and very punchy resource for those who want to get the gist of our theme in a flash.
Testimonies #2 Online School. This page offers a number of testimonies of those precious souls both heritage and contemporary, who have entered His Rest. Most are excerpts that describe how they came to abide in this spiritual dimension, and are taken from very lengthy heritage works that describe the whole life. Most are quite instructive to those who wish to follow on to enter His Rest, but I have also included some testimonies from famous souls within His Rest that did not provide us with much helpful information, even though their stories are stunning. (e.g. Mme. Guyon, Brother Lawrence & Saint Francis of Assisi) Early historical figures are often that way, because they were so very poorly informed themselves. In fact, they would have literally given their right arm to have the wealth of resources found on this website at hand. But they did not. You do!!!! So you can be far more informed on how to both enter and retain His Rest than they ever were because generations since have read their worthy works - and then went on to build upon their shoulders. One such builder was John Wesley.
Entry Directions #3 Online School. This page is the beef of the website, and of the online school: but if you eat only beef, you will not do well. Most of these exceptional resources came from my sifting through the Wesleyan Heritage Library CD. There I found a number of excerpts and brief resources that speak directly to those who earnestly seek to know how they too may make their hearts pure and white as did many in the past. The exceptional treasures from "Revival Classics" were sourced by Marc Adams and are available in printed form on the Order page. They are large print and optimized for study. Some of the works even come in a "Commuter Special" MP3 Audio CD!
Be careful to correctly understand the heritage jargon. It can fool you! In those pre-Azusa days, "baptized in the Spirit" referred to entering His Rest. Their definition -and the spiritual experience they used the term to describle it was incomplete, but not incorrect. Today many of us are "filled with the Spirit" and so have "the Holy Spirit" released in power within. But few indeed, abide within "the Fire" as the sanctified do.
These terms cannot be copyrighted by any belief group since they are scripture. They refer to spiritual experiences that some enjoy, and despite the rhetoric -some do not. All read the Word and form opinions, whether they have what is referred to or not. Opinions formed without a proper factual basis are termed "presumption" -or worse.
Wisdom for Ministers Online School option. On this page seasoned sanctified figures of the past give guidance to those who have already entered His Rest. These articles provide good insight into this state of grace for anybody, although it was specifically written for those who have just entered His Rest.
Historical Background Assorted articles to provide historical context.
Dancing with Ichabod Assorted articles to help us all answer the question, "So, if the Great Awakening was so great, just where did it go?" They flirted with deception. The blind led the blind, and so naturally they all wandered into the ditch. But there were a great variety of routes to the same unhappy outcome of living outside of His Rest. Saved but not completely saved....
Charismata Online School option. Articles and resources of special impact for my fellow charismatic/pentecostals that dig into the relationship between "His Spirit" and "His Rest". Also included is a section of heavy-duty prophecies on the topic.
Other Articles Assorted good bric-a-brac that are excellent but off topic.
FAQs Online School option. Seekers of His Rest in every century have been full of urgent questions about this topic. Here you have access to both those still relevant questions, and their fascinating authoritative answers.

His Rest has been neglected by the wider church for many reasons. Chief among those reasons, is that it is just plain tough to obtain. It requires a passionate and single-hearted pursuit that counts not the cost. Today's hurried lifestyles are not amenable to this. But this is not new, since no earthly lifestyle ever was. For good reason, His Rest has been called "the road less traveled". There never was a traffic jam into His tableland of delight. Only stalwart souls attempt the climb. But even so, many turn back.
We have near nil contemporary resources available. Why? Again, because the abiding in this state of grace "hid in His bosom" has become virtually unknown in this hurried and earthy age. So we have to make do with resources that are often burdened with obsolete doctrine or explanations. But we have no choice since there has been nearly no definitive recent works penned on the subject. In contrast, the heritage authours had years of experience dealing with large numbers of souls pressing into His Rest to gain experience from. There just is nobody alive today with offerings that can compare with the costly wisdom gained from guiding many thousands into His Rest.
Some of the souls on the "Testimonies" page are now gaining this experience. But it takes years. Great is the opposition.
However, we do have the advantage of a mountaintop perspective. We can look back and see what the outcomes were of various movements and ministries, but Marc, George and I are gradually collaborating with others in His Rest to see what we can do to bring a comprehensive contemporary perspective. Marc has the advantage of years of formal theological training. George has the advantage that comes from many years preaching this word. I have been single mindedly pursuing this topic for many years while building this website. We have all been walking in His Rest longer than many of the heritage writers. All three of us also have intimate experience with modern pentecostal perspectives.
Marc Adams who lives near Minneapolis now teaches classes to guide believers into His Rest. From these classes he is preparing a robust online curriculum to give you more hands-on guidance into His Rest than this library website is designed for. George Delo travels to preach conviction for holiness from his home in Virginia.

(Other links at the foot of the "Entry Directions" page.) Marc is the owner of "Revival Classics", a publisher of valuable heritage books that guide souls into His Rest. These "E-Z Read" books and MP3 discs are available on our "Order" Page on the left-hand menu.) Any costs merely cover the manufacture of these resources. These websites are funded by our own personal funds. There is no profit anywhere. Be assured that there are no personal kingdoms being built here.....
Protect Your Eyes!
There is a lot of demanding material on this website. If you try to study it all from a regular CRT monitor, you will get eye strain for sure, even with the easier to read PDF format. You may wish to consider a new flat panel monitor. Before I got mine, my eyes just could not stand any more. They were bloodshot, sore, and felt very strained. Now I have no trouble at all.
But even better than that is to print out certain selections. For some reason, when you kick back with a printed page, comprehension is much improved. While any CRT monitor is a subtly dynamic environment that encourages you to hurry when you should not. All my PDFs are designed to keep white space to a minimum in order to conserve paper.
Best of all, is to take advantage of the works on the Order page. I have not seen the quality and readability of the books printed by "Revival Classics" equalled anywhere else. This brings even better comprehension levels. There are even spiral-bound Study Editions, and MP3 discs you can listen to as you commute!!!
I want you to share this peerless foundational work of grace, so I will promtly and gladly answer your email.
Yours in His Most Excellent Service;
Earnest Seeker (Tom Plumb)

The Christian's
Secret to a Happy Life
In a thousand ways He makes this offer of
oneness with Himself to every believer. But all do not say "Yes," to
Him. Other loves and other interests seem to them too precious to be
cast aside. They do not miss of Heaven because of this. But they miss
an unspeakable joy.
You, however, are not one of these. From the very first your soul has cried out eagerly and gladly to all His offers, "Yes, Lord; yes!" You are more than ready to pour out upon Him all your richest treasures of love and devotedness. You have brought to Him an enthusiasm of self-surrender that perhaps may disturb and distress the more prudent and moderate Christians around you. Your love makes necessary a separation from the world, which a lower love cannot even conceive of. Sacrifices and services are possible and sweet to you, which could not come into the grasp of a more half-hearted devotedness. The life upon which you have entered gives you the right to a lavish outpouring of your all upon your beloved One. Services, of which more distant souls know nothing, become now your sweetest privilege. Your Lord claims from you, because of your union with Him, far more than He claims of them. What to them is lawful, love has made unlawful for you. To you He can make known His secrets, and to you He looks for an instant response to every requirement of His love. Oh, it is wonderful! the glorious, unspeakable privilege upon which you have entered! How little it will matter to you if men shall hate you, or shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for His dear sake! You may well "rejoice in that day and leap for joy"; for behold your reward is great in Heaven, and if you are a partaker of His suffering, you shall be also of His glory. In you He is seeing of
the travail
of His soul, and is satisfied. Your love and devotedness are His
precious
reward for all He has done for you. It is unspeakably sweet to Him. Do
not
be afraid then to let yourself go in a heart-whole devotedness to your
Lord,
that can brook no reserves. Others may not approve, but He will, and
that
is enough. Do not stint or measure your obedience or your service. Let
your
heart and your hand be as free to serve Him, as His heart and His hand
were
to serve you. Let Him have all there is of you, body, soul, and spirit,
time,
talents, voice, everything. Lay your whole life open before Him that He
may
control it. Say to Him each day, "Lord, how shall I regulate this day
so
as to please Thee? Where shall I go? What shall I do? Whom shall I
visit? What shall I say?" Give your intellect up into His control and
say, "Lord,
tell me how to think so as to please Thee?" Give Him your reading, your
pursuits,
your friendships, and say, "Lord, give me the insight to judge
concerning
all these things with Thy wisdom." Do not let there be a day nor an
hour
in which you are not intelligently doing His will, and following Him
wholly.
And this personal service to Him will give a halo to your life, and
gild
the most monotonous existence with a heavenly glow.
by Hannah Whitall Smith -from Chapter 16
"The Joy of Obedience"Have you ever grieved that the romance of youth is so soon lost in the hard realities of the world? Bring God thus into your life and into all its details, and a far grander enthusiasm will thrill your soul than the brightest days of youth could ever know, and nothing will seem hard or stern again. The meanest life will be glorified by this. Often, as I have watched a poor woman at her wash-tub, and have thought of all the disheartening routines of such a life, and have been tempted to wonder why such lives need to be, there has come over me, with a thrill of joy, the recollection of this possible glorification of it, and I have said to myself, Even this life, lived in Christ, and with Christ, following Him whithersoever He may lead, would be filled with an enthusiasm that would make every hour of it glorious. And I have gone on my way comforted to know that God's most wondrous blessings thus lie in the way of the poorest and the meanest lives. "For," says our Lord Himself, "whosoever," whether they be rich or poor, old or young, bond or free, "whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and my mother." |
