How to Enter His Rest

Summary: What is His Rest?  Is it Scriptural?  What is it like to enter His Rest?  How do we enter?  Doctrine and history.  The purpose of this website.

Each of the following terms are used within certain groups or periods of history to embody their mixture of ancient myths, knowledge or hopes of the same very definite scriptural experience of entrance into and dwelling (Tabernacling) in His Holiness.  The scriptural term "His Rest" is most often recognised today.

You may recognise what some others have called this same experience:

In the past many weren’t too sure which name to call it, but they sure knew they had it:

"but I have called it entire sanctification; I have called it scriptural holiness; I have called it the second blessing; I have called it the baptism with the Holy Ghost and fire; I have told the people that the old man had to be crucified and that the body of sin had to be destroyed"  Bud Robinson 1886

Although powerful pre-Azusa  Street "Great Awakening" roots are seldom understood today, more recently that same experience has been variously described as:

His Rest

He wants us all to come to Tabernacle in the Rest of His finished work as an unshakeable foundation for all of our life and Godliness for it is a deep and stable intimacy in Him.

It has been missed today, not because it is too high, but because it is too lowly, too simple, too faithful and too costly. It has been instinctively hated, persecuted and reviled because it applies a total and final death to personally cherished ambitions, worldliness, flesh and devils.  Only those who have first wholly decided to follow Him with their whole hearts "though He slay me" (Job 13:15, Gen. 22:10) can qualify for this promised transformation.

It is not new, nor high and exotic; it is foundational to primitive Bible Christianity as preached by Paul. He called it perfection- but this word needs to be understood  properly. It was the secret of success for many of the more recent spiritual giants that we still revere, such as Madame Guyon, The Wesleys, Adam Clarke, Rees Howells, C.T. Studd, John Fletcher, Oswald Chambers, Matthew Henry, "Praying" Hyde, Smith Wigglesworth, John G. Lake and many, many others that you will meet on this website.

Before the Azusa Street revival in 1910 "complete sanctification" was widely preached and experienced.  This was the power behind those former times of the Great Awakening when His Spirit fell bringing great conviction and transformations of whole communities at once. It must be noted that this was without the same benefits of the access to the comforts of easy access to information, outreach budgets or big warm buildings. Instead, they had privation accompanied by strong persecution from the established church.

In brief, this is how they viewed their mandate: "The whole design of God was to restore man to his image, and raise him from the ruins of his fall; in a word, to make him perfect; to blot out all his sins, purify his soul, and fill him with all holiness, so that no unholy temper, evil desire, or impure affection or passion shall either lodge or have any being within him. This and this only is true religion, or Christian perfection; and a less salvation than this would be dishonourable to the sacrifice of Christ and the operation of the Holy Ghost.... Call it by what name we please, it must imply the pardon of all transgression and the removal of the whole body of sin and death.... This, then, is what I plead for, pray for, and heartily recommend to all true believers, under the name of Christian perfection." Adam Clarke

The coming Kingdom Church will be characterised by two distinct blessings for us to faithfully pour out before His throne. Initial salvation will be completed by His Rest.  They are both strengthened by the Comforter. His matchless anointing will Tabernacle upon the firm foundation of a supernaturally established pure heart: this will make commonplace lives of blameless authority and stable great anointing.

Our Heavenly Pilgrimage

Our heavenly pilgrimage starts with the salvation experience:

"Conversion is the first cure. It resurrects the dead soul. It forgives all past transgressions. It imparts to the soul spiritual life, spiritual consciousness, spiritual relationships, spiritual possessions, a spiritual appetite, spiritual discernment, spiritual aversions to all sin, actual and inbred, and spiritual loyalty to Christ, its spiritual King. It gives an appetite for spiritual food and thirst for spiritual drink. It checks the inbred sin within and keeps it under. It imparts God's love to the soul. It plants all the graces of the spirit in the soul-garden, and it keeps the weeds of carnality under. That it does not, however, effect a complete cure is clear from the Word, from church creeds, and from the testimony of God's children." "The Double Cure", by M.W. Knapp (See the Entry Directions section.)

In initial conversion, indeed, heaven gains a foothold upon your earth: while the soul gains a beginner’s conditional access to His costly blood-bought power over all sin and perdition.

Denominational Perspectives

"Among the precious gifts of grace provided for, and promised to all God's dear children, is the experience of entire sanctification. This grace is tendered to those, and only to those, who are the children of God. Hence all the promises of his word, relating to this experience, are addressed to the children of God. Each commandment in the New Testament, in any form of words, which necessarily involves the state of entire sanctification, is addressed solely to Christians; and each prayer offered for this grace, is offered on the behalf of those, and only those, who are born of God.  (Matt. 5:48; John 17:17-19; I Thes. 4:3, 7; 5:23, 24; 1 Pet. 1:16; 1 John 3:3; 4:17)

Because of this clear and universal testimony of the Scriptures, all organized bodies of Christians which have ever existed (except one or two) have believed and taught sanctification as an experience, or state not realized in, and necessarily subsequent to, the new birth. Christians of different names and orders, have differed widely as to what sanctification is, and as to the time and manners of its attainment; but the whole Christian world agrees that it is a state, or grace, or work wrought in the soul subsequent to regeneration. This truth is so clearly impressed on universal consciousness, that it is doubtful whether there is one minister in all the earth who seriously urges an unconverted sinner to seek directly entire sanctification.

Our Calvinistic brethren generally teach that the change to be wrought in complete sanctification is so great, that its accomplishment in this life is wholly impracticable. They all agree that somewhere, before the soul enters the holy heaven it must and will be wholly sanctified. They all believe that there is a progressive work after justification, in which the soul is brought more and more under the influence of sanctified affections; but that the soul may be delivered from all sin before death, they deny. Something extraordinary must occur very near, or in death, by which our carnal nature will be taken away, and we shall then be wholly sanctified." (Page 2, "The Inheritance Restored" by M.L. Haney)  - See the Entry Directions section.

The early Pentecostals also gradually became mired in an incomplete understanding of the subject.

With the Pentecostal/charismatic stream entertaining the above facile and confusing view it was unlikely that His Rest would become widely understood or experienced among them, since the entry requirements to His Rest demand an uncompromising deliberate committment of your all far greater than salvation. Without faithful guidance given by those who already have the experience, it is unlikely that the soul would receive the targeted faith to hit this profoundly high mark. The purpose of this website is to provide this gracious guidance in overwhelming abundance.

(My own personal entry was unnecessarily detoured for many years because I did not understand that such a blessedly stable intimacy was available while still upon this earth. I mistakenly thought I already had all the fundamentals. All I needed was "spiritual growth" in "progressive sanctification" by His Spirit. In this  I was sadly mistaken since a successfully completed consecration is just one of the conditions for entire sanctification. I lacked proper guidance.) (discussed on Page 11 below)

The Heritage of Salvation

"A child can never, in any sense, be more truly the child of its parents than at its birth; neither will it ever be more legitimately the heir of its father's estate. So, when born of God, we are his children as certainly as we ever can be, either on earth, or in heaven; and as his children, we are heirs of the entire possession. We can never heir more than the whole. The difference is not found in the relation of the child to God, but in the moral condition or state of the child. To understand this truth more clearly let us inquire:

What are the distinctions between justification and sanctification?

1. Justification is an act done for us; sanctification is a work wrought in us.

2. Justification is an outward work; sanctification is an inward work.

3. Justification relates to pardon; sanctification to purifying.

4. Justification, in relation to the divine law, averts its penalty; sanctification, in relation to the same law, removes the hindrances to obedience, and conforms the soul to its holy precepts, that the soul may be justified evermore. It is easy to distinguish between pardon and purifying, or see the difference between an act which takes away condemnation, and a work which makes us holy."

"Regeneration, as a cleansing work, removes the pollution consequent upon actual transgression; sanctification cleanses the heart from inherited sin." (Page 5, "The Inheritance Restored" by M.L. Haney (See the Entry Directions section.)

Summary:

Salvation was the first blessing to be typified in the Old Testament and given to the apostles. It was also the first to be restored to view after the long dark night. Luther clearly demonstrated to all in his generation that His Salvation was real, and it was obtained by His grace through faith.

Holiness was the second blessing to appear and then be restored to view after the long dark night. Wesley clearly demonstrated to all in his generation that His Holiness was real, and believers obtained it by His grace through a second distinct work of faith. This second blessing is the completion of the work of the first. Purity is pardon supernaturally perfected.

The Lasting Experience

Here is one authour's graphic impression of what entering His Rest feels like:

"The first thing realised on entering the holy of holies was the deep quiet. Heavy folds of drapery separated this inner room from the other parts of the tabernacle. In like manner one of the outstanding features of the sanctified life is the divine stillness which settles down over all the soul faculties. The soul possesses not only peace with God but the peace of God; the Dove of Peace spreads her wings above their restlessness, a strange and heavenly quietness fills the whole being.

There is a sense of fullness, a sense of being inwardly healed, an exquisite experience of purity, while the soul fairly melts under the baptism of perfect love. And through all and in all the Spirit of God whispers to the soul, "This is sanctification."

The second noticeable fact on entering the holy of holies is that it was a hidden place. When the high priest entered the holy of holies on the great day of Atonement, the people gazed after him, but no one dared to follow him and he was hidden from the view of the people. Just so, the moment we are sanctified a curtain drops behind us and we enter upon a hidden life which the world and the unsanctified church fail to comprehend.

John says, "To him that overcometh will I give . . . a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it." It is a hidden life. Its motives, its humility, its joy, its self-sacrifice, its silence and its testimony, are all misunderstood by the world and by the unsanctified church. The sanctified life is a life that is hidden from evil and from the strife of tongues."

Third, we notice the ark. The ark typifies the sanctified heart. God's plan and purpose in redemption is to bring the human heart into the holy of holies.

Fourth, we observe the table of law known as the ten commandments. This is God's promise concerning laws in our hearts. In the old Covenant the law of God was written on a table of stone and placed within the ark in the holy of holies, but in the New Covenant God writes His laws in the believer's heart. This makes religion easy."    from the "The Holy of Holies" found on the Entry Directions page.

"At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child to Him and set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18: 1-3 (Please notice that this was spoken not to the unsaved, but to His already beloved disciples, so this implies another level of conversion altogether.  Full conversion. ")

To read my testimony of entering His Rest see  Tom Plumb in the Testimonies section.

"LORD, my heart is not haughty, Nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, Nor with things too profound for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, hope in the LORD From this time forth and forever." Psalm 131:1-3

"For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones." Isaiah 57:15

Purity does not remove your humanity, personality or healthy habits. These merely become healed and uncontested by the enemy. You will find that you will gradually lose interest in a great many earthly things in the undimmed light of His glory. They just fall away.
Are you looking for the ultimate bulletproof  spiritual armour to withstand the time of troubles ahead? This is the foundation for a cast iron anointing.  Are you looking for the key to vast end-times revival power? This is an essential part of that too, not to mention untold spiritual authority. Really. This is serious stuff. Search out the enclosed resources, and you will see that this is a costly "Berean" venture of ultimate faith that will leave all mere religion quite obsolete.   -Edit.

John Wesley

John Wesley was an astute spiritual archaeologist who diligently uncovered Paul’s ancient buried treasure of "perfection".  He then systematised it with the help of his associates, and then preached it with signs and wonders following to those who had believing ears to hear. He did not have all the answers; he merely put into public practice what he saw and heard the Lord doing in his own life and in the lives of others before and during his time.

He preached that the Lord gives complete freedom from every sin in a single moment of time to those who ask (and keep on asking) with the groaning of simple (plain, complete) believing faith. The resulting transformed hearts that multiplied throughout the Western world started the missionary tradition to spread this same Holiness gospel world-wide. Revivals followed the path of these Holy messengers.  For more on Wesley see, " A Plain Account of Christian Perfection" by John Wesley, in the Entry Directions section.

"But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.  Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection……….that you do not become sluggish,  but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises" Hebrews 5:14
Paul here says clearly that we must go on to finish the race or we will become spiritually lost in sluggishness. (lukewarmness) We must imitate those who have already inherited His costly promises of perfection to avoid this deadly trap of spiritual sleep.

They Wrestled With God and Prevailed

Dismay and astonishment that this is not preached or practised in today's Charismatic churches grew with the glory of my 1988 experience, and led to my seeking the Lord on the issue. His answer is this website which has been provided by a succession of miracles of His provision during a time of profound personal testing.

Most material comes from the time of the Great Awakening (1850-1910), when this experience became quite common. What is called His Rest today is often just an excellent consecration, instead of the complete work of grace referred to here. I should know: I spent from 1972 until 1988 consecrating. The difference can only be appreciated after you "Taste and see!!!!"

The proper heart-response to the converting work of grace (justification) is consecration (giving one’s all in thanks and in trust).  When this is fully accomplished, a second work of grace can be asked for which finishes the work that the first one started.  The first work is initiated by His grace when the heart merely succumbs to conviction of sin He has graciously supplied.  The second work is the result of the soul responding with proper thankful trust by placing the whole life in His able hands for similar cleansing and completion.  When it is wholly ready, the Lord accepts the sweet-smelling sacrifice, and transforms it in a moment, for He was patiently waiting for this moment of total commitment to be enabled to fulfil the plan of joyous intimacy with us He had from the beginning….

The first is a demonstration of His faith in the soul: the second, a demonstration of the soul’s faith, and then His gracious response.

This second work of grace which may be obtained soon after conversion or at any time later brings one to a state of consciousness beyond the power of sin.  Most souls undergo a period of advancing consecration beforehand while learning to trust. This blessing, when complete, provides the Lord a vessel able to steward with high fidelity His uninterrupted strong anointing. The vessel is now enabled to effortlessly rejoice in the midst of all hardship without being inwardly shaken as well as embrace any measure of blessing without becoming inwardly puffed up.  The Lord knows this vessel can be trusted, for it has become wholly His.  Sealed.  Made white.

Entire sanctification can be obtained either before or after the Pentecostal Baptism of the Holy Spirit without contradiction.  The Holy Spirit and the gifts of service are given as a helpers to empower us for all things in Godliness.  This includes both helping others toward Him, and the wooing of your own soul toward Him in a maturing consecration according to the measure of faith. A completed consecration is merely one qualification for entry into His Rest. All of the qualifications are described in various ways within the carefully chosen selections in the heart of this website: see the Entry Directions page.

Often faith is engendered by quality unadulterated teaching and accessible living examples of that which is taught. When Holiness had these in the past, it flourished.

The easiest way to enter His Rest is to travail for it quite soon after conversion while the death-defying "Saving Faith" is yet active. (See Chapter 19 in       The Inheritance Restored  in the Entry Directions section. 49 page PDF)  However, this usually requires that the soul be faithfully taught and witnessed to that this is available so that specific persistent faith for it may be activated.

Faithful young people that I have encountered find entire sanctification makes common sense to them. The complicated years-long path of pain and repentance that us seasoned veterans would tend to teach makes no sense at all to them since God has just saved and then filled them instantly. Why would a good God not remove their remaining trouble in an instant also? Why should it be complicated if their God is still God?

They do not doubt their need, since they intuitively cannot accept the contradictory need to constantly fight yucky base desires in order to live clean before an all-conquering God. They are told they are saved from sin and yet find it to be ever with them!

They hate this double-minded "hypocrisy" in others, as well as themselves. They simply want to be free. Who needs all that yucky stuff anyway? They simply want to serve God in unhindered fullness of joy. Their unsaved friends unconsciously agree: they do not want to see struggling Christians with "hypocrisy", they want to see an overflowing radiant victory! This is what they cry to see and run to!!!

Regrettably, they have not yet been socialized into accepting our sallow church insouciance of  "the way things are.".....

If you are a veteran believer, you will probably walk a harder road: you must first leave considerable established habits of religion behind before you can in actual fact cast all your cares upon Him anew as a babe. You must be healed especially of your very survival instinct and regain your "first love".

Close the encrusted door to all sin and self-effort; that He may open His heart-door to you in fullness of trust! Make way for Heaven to replace all without reserve.  For most of us, none of this is fast or easy, to be sure.  Some simple souls on the other hand.....

In reality, veterans in the faith are often unwilling to lay down all their hard-won laurels at His feet. I hope you are willing, for the reward is exceedingly great: beyond all imagining. It is certainly beyond my powers of description, especially since I have not yet nearly obtained all the riches to be found within this entirely fresh and new Beulah land that stretches gloriously before me...

"The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Rev. 4:10-11  Now if we see these heavenly elders cast their crowns before the throne: are we called to anything less?...

Entire Consecration

"When the obedient child of God is convicted of the need of entire sanctification, he will at once inquire, if not hindered by carnal influence, what must I do to receive it? We trust the Lord will enable us to make the way plain to all such. As previously stated, entire sanctification involves both entire consecration and entire purification. If the inquirer will keep this thought before his mind, it will save him from much confusion. Get intelligent views of both the human, and the divine part of this work; and do not permit any agency to turn you aside from the pursuit of the truth.

Right here Satan interposes, if possible, one of his greatest hindrances, by turning your attention from your duty, which is consecration, and inducing you to make agonising efforts to accomplish that which God only can do, i. e., purify your heart.

Precisely this is the condition into which he has led all those who spend their lives in fruitless efforts to grow, or improve themselves, into purity of heart. It is simply your duty to comply with the conditions; God will do all the saving.

Satan will keep you employed about the divine part of this work if he can, and thus keep you from meeting the conditions; and after years have passed you will, like many of your brethren, be more confused than ever. Therefore keep this truth before you: entire sanctification means entire consecration and entire purification. To be entirely sanctified you must first be entirely consecrated.

The enemy will doubtless suggest, and many of your brethren will join in the suggestion, that you were wholly consecrated when you were converted. Right here, get clear views as to what is embraced in the consecration of a child of God for a holy heart. To aid you in this, I suggest, that whatever you did by way of consecration at the time of your conversion, was all done before you were either pardoned or regenerated; while your soul under a load of conscious guilt, was yet in the darkness of spiritual death. What God now demands, must be done under the light of regeneration with the Holy Sprit as your internal guide. What you did then, was the act of a condemned sinner; what you do now is the act of a justified Christian. You were then required to renounce the things that are wrong; God now demands that you lay at his feet the things that are right. The offering you then made was, a man with all his powers under the control of spiritual death. God now demands the presentation of a man whose faculties are made alive by regeneration, and under the control of grace." see Chapter 24  The Inheritance Restored  , By M. L. Haney in the Entry Directions section 49 pg PDF)

"And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word." 1 Kings 18:21 (People always love their dark wilfullness. )

"So he answered and said," ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbour as yourself." Luke 10:27 (this you just cannot help after you enter His Rest. It comes naturally now.)

"Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down". Revelation 12:10 (Accusations and temptations are now virtually powerless! His strength flourishes uncontested within.)

Holiness in the Primitive Church

“It is a source of gratitude that the Apostolic Church gave her official testimony on this subject, and gave the document a permanent record so that it may be consulted at any time. In Acts 15th, we have an account of an official meeting, called at Jerusalem, to adopt some discipline for the government of the Gentile converts.

After "there had “been much disputing" on the main point, Peter made an address which James embodied in a preamble to which he attached a resolution. This was accepted by the council, and put into a written form and officially directed to the Gentile brethren. Concerning the truths stated by Peter in his speech there was no difference of opinion, and in those statements, officially endorsed as a preamble to their resolution on the main question, we find the official testimony of the Apostolic Church to the work and experience of Christian holiness.

The wording of the testimony is found in Acts 15 verses 7-9: "Men and brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost even as He did unto us; and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.” Here are interesting statements to be noticed. (1.) Heart purity was the experience of the early Church, both of Jews and Gentiles, both of the official and lay members, and was so declared in open council. (2.) This purity was declared to be the work of the Holy Ghost in the heart through faith, and hence was a general experience among young converts as well as older members. (3.) To the work of purity it is declared, "God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost." (4.) This work, though wrought early in the religious life, was declared done for the Gentile converts after the same style and manner that it was done for the Apostles. They received the Holy Ghost in His fullness at the Pentecost, from two to three years after they became acquainted with Him in His awakening, regenerating, and adopting offices. This also had been the case, substantially, with the Ephesian and Samaritan disciples, as was well known to Peter and the other members of the council at the time they adopted these statements.”

This Website

There is a lot of reading on this website. It takes time. It takes sacrifice. But it takes a lot less than chasing one "red herring" after another to find fullness. I have chased a lot of them through the years and all of a sudden I find myself no longer young and no longer strong. Obtain His fullness while you still have the youthful vigour to build a worthy testimony that will remain as gold and precious stones on that day. Be a wise virgin and learn from those who have gone before where the oil may be found. Please! Take the torch and run to win! We are giving you a map of faith so that you do not have to run in any more vain circles.

This introduction was meant to provide you with a context for understanding the marvellous heritage authors on this website. As you will see, other writers in the great Awakening built on what Wesley and friends provided to obtain an even more excellent revelation of sanctification.  It is our task to overcome today's fresh crop of confusions with these excellent tools.  Some may even be granted wisdom to hone these tools further.

The website resources provide an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of illustrated Holiness truths. The best place to start is with the Testimonies  They will make you laugh; they will make you cry; they will make you cry to obtain the same blessing.

In order to gain persective on just what these people were up against in their quest for purity I highly recomend this rollicking tale of the colourful early sawdust revivals before you get too involved elsewhere:   Pioneer Days of The Holiness Movement in the Southwest ( in the History section).  Carefully observe the amazing strategies that are used to obtain their remarkable results in their world yet unschooled in the deceptions of Darwin and Freud!  It was certainly a different world back then!!!

Most of the enclosed resources are from the pre-Azusa Street "Great Awakening" that occurred after the American civil war. For a time before the war, the initial Holiness practises were well on the way to being lost. In their long and difficult struggle to regain them, which many within have chronicled, some took the long and hard way, and some were enabled to take the direct way; but all of the carefully selected articles are instructional in your quest to obtain this sanctification. You will observe that most who took the direct way did it with the aid of direct teaching and living exemplars around them. Those who took the long way usually lacked these helps. This means that pioneers most often had long testimonies of great difficulty.  This pattern is discussed in  Testimonial Classifications

We today have the great advantage of powerful heritage writing gathered before us in panoramic review.

From our lofty perch we can observe the numerous sawdust floor revival adventures of Carradine in the South, in contrast with the gracious anointing of the blessed Brengle’s global discipling, and allow both to minister their special perspectives to us in a similar way that the four authors of the gospels do. We can see Godbey apply the stinging lash of conviction to the evil sin and self duo in "Holiness or Hell" or Knapp apply the same dauntingly comprehensive vision in a different way in "The Double Cure". We can read the cautionary tales of those who took the wide way on the "Dancing with Ichabod" page, or we can read of the many lives consummated in glory on the "Testimonies" page. Our selection is the envy of those chronicled; many of whom would often consider themselves fortunate to see just one such work in their lifetime. Some of the best of the best from that age is selected and delivered for your great advantage. Hard-won wisdom of various colours and kinds from full lives of service are laid bare for your edification.

Many have given their all to lead today’s horses to the fullness of living water. But the horses must, as ever, take the effort to drink deep. Those who do will join the select flood of gleaming end-time souls that finally embody all that the Holy men of old carefully inquired and searched after and the angels desired to look into. (1 Peter 1:10-12)

If you E-mail considered questions to me for the FAQ department, I will post short answers and references. However, any of the more comprehensive works such as, "A Better Way", "The Double Cure", "The Inheritance Restored", "Sanctification", "Perfect Love" or "How to Obtain a Clean Heart" in the Entry Directions section should provide the alert reader with all the answers they need to overflow. Quite often there will be times you will have to ask the Lord for light. I may provide direction and insight; only He can provide inward revelation.

You should be fully aware that just as no unsaved person can really grasp the gospel until after they are converted; no regular believer can really grasp the glory of entire sanctification until after they enter His Rest. So, if you seek to understand everything beforehand, you may not get around to actually entering. Even then, it takes a while for the totally new reality to sink in. (It took me 2 or 3 years- but I did not have the advantage of the resources of this website - or frankly, any resources.)

To witness to every claim that has been made above, I have gathered testimonies both old and new.  Contemporary testimonies and resources will be gladly added as they become available. If you know one of the presently rare souls who have obtained the actual entire sanctification work, please contact me.

NB Warning- Pentecostals and Charismatics: until the brash new "Holy-Rollers" arrived on the scene in 1910, the use of the scriptural term, "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" belonged almost exclusively to the Holiness churches to refer to their precious sanctification experience. In their eyes, Pentecostals were spiritual upstarts that came out of nowhere and rudely hijacked the term that referred to the jewel in their crown and used it to feed their vile emotionalism!  The heritage resources within are dated before this controversy, and so have the older usage of the term. So, please translate as you read.  On the other hand, John G. Lake, a more recent pioneer of the pentecostal movement used the term more correctly as "the baptism in the Holy Ghost and fire" since he walked in both His Spirit and His Rest. (see the Charismata page.)

If you would like to know more about what charismatics refer to as the "Baptism in the Holy Spirit", we encourage you to go to this site: www.christian-faith.com/bible-studies/baptismintheholyspirit.html or  see this truly exceptional teaching by Reinhard Bonnke in the "Other Articles"  section.

Take note that any of one of these heritage authors is certainly far more experienced at being a midwife of souls entering His Rest than anybody living today. Let us observe them closely while allowing for their distinct context and personality. They were not created equal by any means.

It is my hope that the material presented on this website may sufficiently build your faith that you may come to share the effortless and unshakeable foundation for His anointing that He has so graciously given in spite of my not even knowing to simply trust.

If there is a type of resource that you feel should be here, but is not, please let me know.

I wish you a most profitable Berean adventure as you seek to enter His Rest!

Yours in His Most Excellent Service;

Earnest Seeker

Hebrews 2

18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

1 ¶ Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: "So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’" although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works";

5 and again in this place: "They shall not enter My rest." 6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, "Today," after such a long time, as it has been said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts." 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.

9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.

10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. 11 ¶ Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. (for the meaningful context see "Selected Scriptures of Rest" on the Entry Directions page)

(Portions of the above passage are often taken out of this context to support less demanding views.  The context is plainly the topic of  "entering His Rest", as are numerous others throughout the entire book of Hebrews as well as the rest of the scriptural record as often explained in the "Entry Directions" section.)
