First we will look at the foundations of Pentecost, and then go on to listen to some of its champions.....

If we understand in careful detail the work of Christ in salvation, we note that:
1. As part of "regeneration" there is an initial work of cleansing -pardon for prior acts of sin. (the completion of this initial cleansing unto purity is the topic of this website as a whole)
2. Every genuine conversion includes receiving the Holy Spirit -regardless of belief system or denominational loyalty.
3. Before the Asuza Street revivals in 1910, the term "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" was used to refer to the post-salvation cleansing work of entire sanctification. Since then, the term has been more commonly taken to refer being properly filled with the Spirit some time after your conversion -which assumes a "quiet" conversion without obvious spiritual demonstration.. Both distinct uses are generally correct, since John the baptist who prophetically coined the intriguing term was using the term in a general sense. He was not privy to the detailed plans of God for the more distant future.

Luke 3:16 and Matt. 3:11 "John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." Did you notice how sweeping this sentence is? He touches on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room, the End Times work as well as the central judicial role of Jesus at the Great White Throne judgement.

We see that both the Holy Spirit and the sanctifying Fire were first poured out (on the 120) in the Upper Room. The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit, while the fire is His fearsome cleansing fire of judgment that burns away all dross, leaving the heart pure, white and in His Rest. All your former hopes and dreams are now less than ashes, they are forgotten in the glory of His grace.

But in our quest for entire sanctification/ His Rest we cannot forget that initial salvation and everything connected with it comes first. All the old-time Holiness preachers when preaching the multitudes preached a salvation message with allusions to heart purity sprinkled here and there. Those who hungered after it were counselled separately. But most of the explicit Holiness preaching described on this website occurred at specialized summer camps or special meetings that were explicitly called to help the saved into His Rest.

So today, most attention is paid to the salvation message -which is wholly appropriate. But today the message of heart-purity has been virtually lost, which is certainly inapropriate. This omission skews the whole gospel enterprise towards deceptive teachings which attempt to fill the hunger for a fuller gospel experience. "Sonship" teaching is an example, but many other recent teachers are also puffing up the common gospel for the same reason.

Fully Founded on Christ
Is Pentecost in the midst of losing it's way to follow fresh new heresies? Leaders of foresight are calling for a pentecostal Christianity fully founded upon Christ. It is essential that you are, just as it is essential that the blacksmith keeps his smithy white-hot by keeping that old bellows a-pumping while he is working. If he does not, the iron will be too cool to hammer into shape!
If you are driving a car it is essential that you diligently use of one of it's most insignificant parts. If you do not press the gas pedal as necessary you will get exactly nowhere.
And that is why you must make proper use of the smallest of gifts while seeking Him for more. The gift of tongues works just like the gas pedal or the bellows, in that it allows you the choice to keep your anointing stirred up within. All else follows this -including His Rest.
I have observed for years that I can have personal revival all the time, regardless of how dry others around me choose to be. It is not a matter of prayer, prayer meetings, programs, sermons, or revelations. O yes, these certainly may encourage, but the real difference is made if you keep your Holy Spirit stirred up to white heat within by using your prayer language in secret. If you do this, others just may catch it also -and then it can be group happening. But if not, that is fine too, because at least you will be walking in a joyous revival that pleases God......
Over the years I have seen that those who neglect this principle seldom do well in spiritual things. Spiritual hunger is so very important. God will give you all that you are willing to fervently ask for. He will not try to force His affections upon you since He loves you even more than you love yourself.
