Many start out by receiving their faith in a tentative manner, and so receive a "quiet" faith and experience. Given time, faith increases and some of these begin to hunger for the more active Holy Spirit and Power that they have heard about.
The work of Salvation. When He comes to dwell with those who are reserved and not very trusting---He minds his Ps and Qs. He will politely stay in the room you have allocated to Him, and so you will not see much of Him.
When you finally begin to trust Him more, you get to see Him more. You will often see His sparkling and magnetic personality. His gifts of fruit and flowers will come to grace your table at times. Many will be glad to come and share His bounty with you. Healing. Miracles. Revelation. Deliverances. Gifts. You may come to share in them all.
The work of Sanctification You formally give Him full ownership and control of your household. He provides the groceries and enlarges the dwelling so that it becomes an appropriate dwelling for a King. He holds court and celebrations in this palace whenever He feels like. His palace and love-feasts are yours also. His Peace rules without exception for He guards and protects His own.
This is an idealized view. In fact there are no cookie cutter experiences. They vary according to faith and gifting.
Some receive their faith in an overwhelming flood with obvious signs following right from the start.
However, regardless of how you gain it, those that are seen to have the Holy Spirit within stand out in churches that see quiet faith as the norm. For this reason, we began to be called "Charismatic" since the unfamiliar magnetic and convicting power of the Holy Spirit was shining through!
Luke 3:16 and Matt. 3:11 "John (the Baptist) answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." Did you notice how sweeping this sentence is? John the Baptist by revelation touches on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room, the End Times work as well as the central judicial role of Jesus at the Great White Throne judgement all in one sentence!
In this brief statement we see that both the Holy Spirit and the sanctifying, heart-cleansing Fire were initially poured out in the Upper Room on 120 souls Jesus had first carefully prepared for this double work. They had all wholly consecrated themselves to Him. Before this event, Jesus had the Holy Spirit dwelling within but nobody else. Old Testament believers had the Spirit resting "upon", not within them...
(The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit, while the Fire is His fearsome cleansing fire of judgment that burns away all dross, leaving the heart pure, white and in His Rest. All your former boastful hopes and ambitious dreams as a Christian are now less than ashes: burned to nothingness by the glory of His grace. This brings light and freedom to the previously hidden parts.)
But in our quest for entire sanctification/His Rest we cannot forget that initial salvation and everything connected with it is the first work that must be accomplished in the life. All the old-time Holiness preachers when preaching to the mixed multitudes preached a salvation message with allusions to the subsequent work of heart purification sprinkled here and there. Those who hungered after it were counseled separately. But most of the explicit Holiness preaching described on this website occurred at specialized summer camps or special meetings that were called to direct the saved into His Rest. So these too, were prepared souls that gathered.
The books made use of on the website were also written explicitly for the scattered saved souls who were hungering for His best.
Written in 1904 (which of course was before the Asuza Street revivals) this remarkable book describes many of the same bizarre manifestations in church that we are seeing so commonly across the globe these days. There are differences, but not as large as you might think These were mostly observed in summer camp meetings held to bring people through into purity of heart, but also in regular church meetings.
Over many years the Lord showed the author both the causes and the cures for these disturbing spiritual distractions. 29 pages by A. H. Kauffman
Do you want to read the details of faith that includes His Rest? Details 72 superlative pages for you by the incomparable M. L. Haney.
Every one who is genuinely saved has received the Holy Spirit. Why is it then, that some seem to have more of it than others?
"Christianity started out in Palestine as a fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution; it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise." -Sam Pascoe
Are You Hot for God?
It is essential that you are, just as it is essential that the blacksmith keeps his smithy white-hot by keeping that old bellows a-pumping while he is working. If he does not, the iron will be too cool to hammer into shape!
If you are driving a car it is essential that you diligently use of one of it's most insignificant parts. If you do not press the gas pedal as necessary you will get exactly nowhere.
And that is why you must make proper use of the smallest of gifts while seeking Him for more. The gift of tongues works just like the gas pedal or the bellows, in that it allows you the choice to keep your anointing stirred up within. All else follows this -including His Rest.
I have observed for years that I have enjoyed personal revival all the time, regardless of how dry others around me choose to be. It is not a matter of prayer, prayer meetings, programs, sermons, or revelations. O yes, these certainly may encourage, but the real difference is made if you keep your Holy Spirit stirred up to white heat within by using your prayer language in secret.
Over the years I have seen that those who neglect this principle seldom do well in spiritual things. Those who use this gift in a weak or sporadic fashion will wonder why their blessing is weak and sporadic. You get what you pay for. Others will use it only when it is convenient -such as in secret prayer or ministry times at church. They will wonder why their regular lives are not radiant with blessing.....
Spiritual hunger is so very important. God will give you all that you are willing to fervently and persistently ask for. He will not try to force His affections upon you since He loves you even more than you love yourself.
"Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands." 2 Timothy 1:6
This page contains a selection of period articles about the spectacular ministries of John G. Lake and Smith Wigglesworth. Both became early pioneers of Holiness and Power within the new Pentecostal movement. They were both Spirit-filled as well as sanctified fully. They both ministered with supernatural power that overwhelmed all opposition!!!!
Visions of His RestVarious ones are given a word or a vision that looks forward to a pure hearted faith that is seldom seen today.
I Saw The Line in the Sand
The lukewarm is coming to an end.
God is beginning to separate the precious from the vile and in this, the pure word of God will spring forth with a vengeance and will begin to expose many lies. God’s remnant will begin to turn to that which is pure.
Revival will come and this is what it will take – A Holy people – consecrated to a Holy God – speaking forth the unadulterated pure word of God, bringing truth to a dying world, and many will be set free. 2 pages by Lynn Clark

"Timely Instruction to The Zadok Priesthood"
The Lord is looking for a people whose heart is right with Him, so that He can fully support all that they are doing (see 2 Chronicles 16:9). The Spirit of Truth is raising up leaders that will teach the people the vast difference between what is pure and what is profane (see Ezekiel 44:23). It is crucial that we walk in uprightness if we are to ascend the hill of the Lord (see Psalms. 24:3-4).
As we embrace accountability then we can be trusted with more true authority. Christ Jesus informed us that if we are faithful over little, we will become ruler over much more. On the other hand if we fail to handle small things correctly, even the small things are in danger of being removed. It is required of a steward that he be found faithful. 3 pages by Bobby Connor
The Word to be Released in This Season
These Zadok priests were not allowed to wear anything that caused them to sweat. This is because theirs is a ministry of rest in the secret place. They also were bestowed with an anointing to teach and to rule: (Eze 44:23 KJV+) "And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean." 5 pages by Christine Beadsworth
The Mystery of Sonship
"The whole concept of ‘sonship in its true and biblical sense has been lost to us in modern times" "As long as we remain in a place where resurrection is only a doctrine, which regrettably describes the majority of Christians, then we are still children. It is only when resurrection is our experience that the Father is released to declare the decree: “This is My son or daughter.” by Art Katz 12 pages ***
The Lake Called Serenity
I personally cherish this beauteous vision of His Holiness. "The water was a deep, azure blue and there was no hidden menace or undercurrent to it. It reflected the perfect Peace of the Savior. I immediately understood that its depths were unfathomable, as it was a reflection of the One who sustains the Universe by His powerful Word. The tenderness of the Savior surrounded this place and I felt absorbed in His beauty and peace. Unity permeated the atmosphere and Grace, Goodness and loving-kindness abounded." "A ministry of perfection is coming to the church that will prepare her for the return of the Bridegroom. Sometimes we have to examine the past in order to understand what He is doing today." Preparing for His Presence
"We can only bear His Presence when we have come before Him according to His prescribed manner...adorned in the garments provided for us through His redemption. Sobering Facts About Miracle Ministry
On this web page there are plenty of carrots to motivate us to enter His Rest. But here is a stick from the past. Solemn Prophetic Warnings
The Lord gave Stanley Frodsham, authour of, "Smith Wigglesworth: Apostle of Faith" this Word in 1965. He had just finished observing the appalling carnality that ended the careers of the "Voice of Healing" evangelists of the fifties ( see above). This was in response to an era dominated by unsanctified miracle ministers lusting for name and fame. This solemn prophetic warning with it's serious call to holiness is even more current now. Today's future leaders must take this to heart for extremely few have yet entered His promised and necessary Rest. 6 pages by Stanley Frodsham
Although it is all the vogue today, prophesying is still exceedingly serious business in the Spirit realm. Art explores the relationship between the state of the heart, the word of revelation, and the enduring consequences of these upon the end times. 3 pages by Art Katz
"To be a joyful, radiant Christian one must hate sin and love righteousness. As we saw earlier, Jesus was exalted to the very throne of His Father because of His abhorrence of evil and His attachment to the standard of holiness: "You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy" (Hebrews 1:9). Attributes of Third Heaven Visitation
"As we have pointed out in numerous writings, we believe this generation is on the threshold of experiencing a spiritual restoration that will equate in its prominence with the recovery of the Jewish people to the land of Israel. “He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge his floor.” Matt 3:11b-12a.
Multitudes have received the infilling of the Holy Spirit and have spoken in tongues. But they have not tarried until the “fire” comes to purge and purify them. As this coal of fire comes and touches us, we will be transformed. There will come within us a quality that will have a spiritual “ring” to it.

The Modern Parishioner
Stay awake! 6 page poem "The Rhyme of The Modern Parishioner" by Dr. Michael L. Brown
My ideas regarding Pentecostalism have always been rather conventional. However, a couple of years ago in the course of my continuing research for this website, I made a couple of shocking discoveries that go along way to explain a few of the disturbing things we keep seeing in our spiritual family.
Asuza Street History
You know how it is. There is his story, there is her story, and then the story which is seldom told -the story that is in between somewhere -and near the unvarnished truth.
On the way to creating a satisfactory History, a great deal of time has to elapse because the various factions involved in events often do not get a chance to have their side of the story told -especially if they were on the losing side. The perceived winners in a conflict usually are so busy boasting that the actual truth is lost..
This has very much been the case regarding Pentecostal History. But now the facts are out!
The Asuza Street Revival started among the Holiness people, but it was simply overwhelmed by waves of spiritually hungry Baptists who knew nothing about Holiness and failed to learn about it. But they did want more of the Spirit, so some "enterprising" souls staged a vicious and unprincipled church coup d'etat......
Asuza Street Theology
If you will look in your Pastor's study you will find two kinds of theology text books: regular Baptist Theology and regular Baptist Theology with a Pentecostal veneer. These are used in the Pentecostal seminaries to train ministers like yours. So, you are a Baptist and didn't even know it! Does this matter? Yes, it most certainly does.
Holiness-denying Gnostic thought had been thoroughly debunked long ago. It should have been just quietly forgotten, instead it was resurrected from the dead with help from the just mentioned unschooled Baptists as the supporting doctrine for the Holy Spirit!!!
No wonder so many of our leaders along with everybody else get lost in doctrines that make sinfulness ordinary. Their Baptist doctrine used to be called "the sinning religion", and for good reason. And it did not come from Calvin. It came from a much more recent and a more malign source than you might suspect.
But most of this kept buried in textbooks and seminaries, and so it doesn't matter. Alas, that might be true except for the fact that it keeps all these various churches thinking they already have the answers......
Click for several astonishing articles that examine the foundations of today's accepted theology.
