Selected Scriptures of Rest

All meaningful instances of the word "rest" are listed here with comments. In the Old Testament, the picture that emerges is the hedge of earthly protection that surrounds His people after they allow Him to remove all disobedience

The New Testament hedge provides protection stretching from earth to Heaven since the finished work of the Spirit now extends to the inward parts. Only a scripturally complete deliverance from any admixture of sin and self enables the faithful to fully embrace the finished work and be stewards of the mysteries; and come to live and breathe within the mystery of His Rest. We ignore this to our lasting peril and dishonour!!

This Rest can be correctly viewed as us in Him, as well as Him being freed to be Himself within. He is allowed to feel at home in us and express His expansive personality, without the abominations that would otherwise make Him silently hide with disgust in the basement."

"His Rest" is not just some optional extra blessing that a few precious souls may enter into. It has nothing to do with an easy-chair! Bringing all out of sin to Rest (Tabernacle) in His Presence has always been the end game of the Lord's working and wooing through the ages. The Lord always wanted fellowship with men, but could not betray His character or sully His Heaven to make it happen. Men are known by the company they keep: so is the Lord also.

To those on the outside "the hedge" appears to be protection. To those on the inside it is uninterrupted eating and drinking with Him."

"There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience." (Hebrews 4:9-11)
